Testimony in Opposition to SB26-118

Madam Chair and members of the committee, On behalf of the Colorado Catholic Conference, I testify today in opposition to SB26-118. Faith-based adoption agencies have served Colorado children for more than a century, placing thousands in loving homes. SB26-118 would exclude any agency that operates consistently with its religious tenets on marriage and family from state contracts. The practical effect will not be fewer restrictions; it will be fewer agencies, fewer homes, and more children left in state custody. The Church's teaching on marriage does not stand in the way of loving service to children. On the contrary, it is what makes that service possible. We urge you to vote NO on SB26-118.
