The right to worship God according to conscience is the first of all rights and the foundation of every other freedom (Dignitatis Humanae §2). Believers and religious institutions must remain free to serve, hire, and speak in accord with the tenets of their faith — including in schools, hospitals, and charitable ministries.
The family, founded on marriage between a man and a woman, is the first cell of society and the primary community in which human dignity is nourished (Catechism §2207-2211). Policies affecting parental rights, child welfare, and family formation are read through the family's irreplaceable role in forming persons and transmitting the faith.
